LONDON (AA) - The justice ministers of Italy and Libya signed a prisoner swap deal Friday in Sicily.
The deal was signed by Carlo Nordio and Halima Elbousify on the sidelines of an event in Palermo, marking the 20th anniversary of the UN Convention against Transnational Organized Crime.
The agreement will allow prisoners to serve their sentence in their country of origin when the deal takes effect.
It would help rehabilitate convicts, Libya's National Unity Government said in a statement on Facebook.
