Italy midfielder Jorginho signed a new Arsenal contract on Thursday, the English Premier League club confirmed.

"We’re very happy to have Jorgi sign a contract extension with us. He represents what we stand for here at Arsenal with his professionalism and success," Arsenal Sporting Director Edu said.

"I know everyone at the club will be very excited that Jorgi will continue to be with us, not only the players and coaches, but all the staff behind the scenes as well. It’s great that Jorginho remains with us, as we continue building to be better and stronger." Edu added.

Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta, who was alongside Jorginho, said that they are "delighted" that the Italian midfielder will remain at the London club.

"Jorgi is such an important part of our team, a role model with great leadership skills and a unique playing style ability which makes everybody better around him on the pitch," Arteta said, but the Gunners did not disclose any details of his contract.

Brazilian born Jorginho, 32, previously played for Italian clubs Hellas Verona and Napoli, and Arsenal's city rivals Chelsea.

He joined Arsenal in 2023 to play at least 50 matches for the Gunners in all competitions.

Jorginho won the UEFA Champions League and UEFA Super Cup with Chelsea in 2021, and also helped Italy secure the UEFA EURO 2020 title.

After winning these titles, Jorginho has been named the 2020-21 UEFA Men's Player of the Year.
