ATHENS (AA) – Italy’s foreign minister said the protection of civilians should be a priority, commenting on the attack by Israel on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital in Gaza on Tuesday.

“The protection of the civilian population, even in a conflict, must be an absolute priority,” Antonio Tajani said on X, expressing dismay over the deadly attack.

More than 500 people were killed in the Israeli airstrike on Al-Ahli Baptist Hospital, Health Ministry spokesman Ashraf al-Qudra told Anadolu.

Footage showed corpses scattered across the hospital grounds.

According to an Anadolu reporter, thousands of Palestinians were at the hospital when the building came under bombardment.
