ISTANBUL (AA) - Italy has sent a delegation to the US to hold talks about the tariffs, Italy's Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani said on Monday.
"Today there is a delegation that I sent to Washington to talk to American officials about the tariff situation, which is working in harmony with the EU Commission which has exclusive competence on trade agreements," state-run ANSA news agency quoted Tajani as saying.
He stated that the government is working on a plan to ensure the progress of Italy's exports.
“In the meantime, I think we need to strengthen our presence in other markets, from Mexico to the Gulf countries, from Indonesia to Japan to Türkiye, and at the same time we need to find a way to dialogue with the US," he said.
Stating that they are the country with the highest variety of exported products after China, Tajani said that they will do their best to support Italian companies "in the storm.”
"Our products are of high quality and those who want Italian products will buy them, even if they are more expensive. The high quality of Italian products is a guarantee that allows us to look at this issue without worrying too much about tariffs," he said.
He stated that nothing has been officially announced by the US on tariffs on Italy yet and they are working on this issue and will present a plan to the Senate on March 21.
