ISTANBUL (AA) - Japan walloped Mongolia 14-0 on Tuesday in the second round of the Asian Qualifiers for the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022.
"Japan stretched their lead at the top of Group F with a ruthless demolition of Mongolia. This meeting of the section’s top and bottom sides always looked likely to prove a mismatch," FIFA said in a statement.
"Their final haul of 14 unanswered goals saw Japan match the biggest win recorded in the Qatar 2022 preliminaries: an identical 14-0 triumph for Iran over Cambodia in October 2019," it added.
England's Southampton forward Takumi Minamino got the goal parade started for the Samurai Blue in minute 13 at the Fukuda Denshi Arena in Chiba, near Tokyo.
Yuya Osako had a hat-trick, Kyogo Furuhashi, Junya Ito and Sho Inagaki each scored twice as Kash-Erdene Tuya put through his own goal.
Yuya Osako, Daichi Kamada, and Hidemasa Morita each netted each one in the historic victory.
Japan remained atop of Group F with 15 points.
