Japan begins discharging radioactive water from Fukushima nuclear plant

Water discharge started around 1 p.m. local time, Kyodo News reports

WASHINGTON (AA) - Japan commenced ocean discharge Thursday of treated radioactive water from the Fukushima Daiichi nuclear power plant damaged in a 2011 tsunami, said a report.

The water discharge started around 1 p.m. local time (0400GMT), Kyodo News reported.

The Fukushima complex contains about 1.34 million tons of treated water.
