Japan declares 7 missing crew of crashed choppers dead

⁠ ⁠Carrying crew of 4 each, 2 choppers of Japanese defense forces had collided, crashed in April

ISTANBUL (AA) - Japan on Tuesday declared dead seven crew who went missing after two defense forces choppers collided and crashed in April.

Of the eight crew in two choppers, only one body was recovered, Tokyo-based Kyodo News reported.

The two SH-60K helicopters crashed in waters around 270 kilometers (168 miles) east of Torishima Island in the Izu Island chain during a nighttime anti-submarine drill in the area.

The Izu island chain is located south of Tokyo.
