ISTANBUL (AA) – Japan's prime minister said Friday that he is eager to create a security framework for the Pacific region in collaboration with Australia and New Zealand, Jiji Press reported.

"I think cooperation among naval forces can be realized in the future," Shigeru Isbiba told Japan’s Diet or parliament, saying that such an initiative would help to boost security in the Pacific region.

He said cooperation could initially be explored in the area of maritime security before Japan looks into a potential alliance between Australia, New Zealand, and the United States.

Ishiba concluded that these actions would promote increased US involvement in the Pacific region.
