ISTANBUL (AA) — Japan on Tuesday announced plans to impose sanctions on Palestinian resistance group Hamas and freeze the assets of nine individuals and an organization for their alleged links to the group.

The nine individuals have been identified as of Palestinian, Sudanese, Egyptian, and Jordanian nationals, Tokyo-based Kyodo News reported.

Japan's Foreign Ministry alleged that the individuals and organization were "involved in fundraising for Hamas."

The Israeli army has widened its air and ground attacks on the Gaza Strip, which has been under relentless airstrikes since the surprise offensive by Hamas.

Over 9,800 people have been killed in the conflict, including 8,306 Palestinians, including over 3,400 children, and 1,538 Israelis.
