ISTANBUL (AA) – Japan’s capital Tokyo on Monday saw the biggest surge in COVID-19 cases in the past three months, health data showed.
Data showed that Tokyo metropolitan reported 103 daily coronavirus cases on Monday, two days after the New Year was celebrated in the country and around the world which saw mass transit of people.
It is the first time in about three months that the capital’s virus count has risen over 100, Tokyo-based Kyodo News reported.
A day earlier, Tokyo reported 84 cases as the omicron variant of the COVID-19 continued to spread in the country.
Japan has reported over 1.7 million COVID-19 cases since the pandemic unfolded two years ago. Around 18,395 people have lost their lives to the infection.
