ANKARA (AA) – Japan's new car sales hit a 45-year low of 4.2 million in 2022 due to chip shortage and virus-led supply chain disruptions, according to sectoral data reported by local media on Thursday.
Japan's new car sales, including mini vehicles with engines of up to 660 cc, fell 5.6% year-on-year in 2022, Kyodo News reported, citing data from the Japan Automobile Dealers Association and the Japan Light Motor Vehicle and Motorcycle Association.
It was the fourth consecutive year of decline in the main reading.
Sales of automobiles, excluding mini cars, decreased 8.3% from a year earlier to 2.6 million units in 2022, data showed.
