AMMAN, Jordan (AA) – Jordan on Friday expressed its concern over the developments in the Red Sea region after the US and UK launched strikes on Yemen, saying that Israel is pushing the region towards more wars and conflicts.
In a statement to the Jordanian official news agency, Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi emphasized the stability and security of the Middle East region, which is threatened by Israel's brutal aggression against Gaza.
He added: “Amman is keeping a close eye on the developments in the Red Sea region and their implications for regional security generally.”
The Jordanian minister warned that Israel is “continuing its ruthless aggression against Gaza and attempting to open new fronts and draw the West into them in order to extend the Israeli prime minister's political career and carry out the radical racist agenda of radical ministers in the Israeli government.”
He said: “The international community is at a crossroads in terms of security, morality, law, and humanitarianism.”
It can either put an end to Israel's aggression and arrogance, safeguard innocent people, maintain its credibility, and ensure regional security, or it can allow the Israeli prime minister and the ministers of radicalism to drag the region into a conflict, he added.
The US and UK carried out missile strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen Thursday night.
The strikes targeted multiple Houthi sites in Yemeni cities controlled by the Iranian-backed group and followed a string of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea on Israeli-bound vessels.
US President Joe Biden said on Friday he ordered the strikes "in direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea."
