Joshua Cheptegei won gold and set an Olympic record Friday in the men's 10,000 meters.
Cheptegei from Uganda won the race in 26 minutes, 43.14 seconds, while Ethiopian Berigu Aregawi settled for silver after crossing the finish line in 26:43.44. American Grant Fisher clinched bronze in a time of 26:43.46.
The former Olympic record in the event was set by Kenenisa Bekele of Ethiopia in 27 minutes, 01.17 seconds at the 2008 Beijing Games.
Cheptegei, 27, also holds the world record in the race in 26 minutes 11.00 seconds, set in 2020 in Valencia.
