ANKARA (AA) - Kenya reported more than 640 new coronavirus cases and 16 deaths over the past 24 hours, the country’s Health Ministry said on Thursday.
The death toll in the country now stands at 1,568.
A total of “644 people have tested positive for the virus, from a sample size of 6,811 tested in the last 24 hours, bringing to 90,305 the number of confirmed positive cases in the country,” the Health Ministry said on Twitter.
Recoveries in the country increased by 1,060 to reach 71,254, according to the latest data.
Kenya’s virus figures have continued to worsen despite restrictions enforced last month. This also comes amid Kenyan health workers’ strike demanding adequate personal protective equipment to protect themselves against COVID-19.
A nationwide night curfew from 10:00 p.m. to 4:00 a.m. has been imposed at least until Jan. 3, along with limits on public gatherings and a two-month ban on political rallies.
