NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) – At least two people were confirmed dead and 31 others injured after a 10-story building collapsed in Kisii town, southwestern Kenya on Thursday.
The Red Cross said search-and-rescue efforts were underway to rescue more than a dozen workers believed to be buried under the rubble.
In a statement confirming the fatalities, a Kenyan government spokesman said the deceased were transferred to Kisii’s mortuary.
A number of those injured when the building collapsed are said to have been children playing near the construction site.
Some residents from the area have blamed the building collapse on rushed and shoddy workmanship.
