NAIROBI, Kenya (AA) - A Kenyan family has filed a lawsuit against aircraft manufacturer Boeing over a plane crash that killed 36 Kenyans and 113 others on board last month, a U.S.-based attorney said on Tuesday.

Speaking at a media briefing in the Kenyan capital Nairobi, Nomaan Husain of Husain Law Associates said his firm in coordination with Nairobi-based firms “filed [in the State of Illinois] a federal wrongful-death suit following the crash of Ethiopian Airlines Flight ET 302 for the family of George Kabau”.

On March 10, all 157 passengers and crew members were killed after Boeing 373 MAX 8 plane of the Ethiopian Airlines crashed six minutes after take-off from the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.

The lawsuit was filed on behalf of the family of 29-year-old George Kabau, a Kenyan electrical engineer who lost his life in the ill-fated flight.

“Once again corporate greed has prioritized profits over safety with tragic consequences for the public. Our goal with these lawsuits is to obtain answers for out grieving clients and hold those accountable for creating this tragedy,” Nomaan said.

Speaking to Anadolu Agency, Esther Kabau, a sister of the deceased, said: “My brother had been fixing electronics for companies all over Africa. He was at his peak in life. We want Boeing to face the law over the wrongful death of our kin, especially after knowing the planes had a defect. We are doing this to ensure safe travel for all."

Nooman told journalists in Nairobi that, “we’re not interested in taking any money from Boeing at this time; will let the litigation process plays out.”

Meanwhile, Chege Njoroge, a Kenya-based lawyer, said: Beyond providing answers to the grieving families, we want these lawsuits to re-assure safety of the millions of air travelers around the globe.”

More families in Kenya who lost their loved ones in the Ethiopian Airlines plane crash were at the media briefing in Nairobi seeking to find how they can file lawsuits against Boeing.
