KRG, Iran agree to enhance relations, focus on security, stability

ERBIL (AA) - Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) in Iraq, Masrour Barzani, met Friday with Iran's Deputy Foreign Minister Ali Bagheri in Erbil to discuss relations.

A KRG Prime Ministry's statement noted that the meeting focused on enhancing relations between the KRG and Iran, and both sides agreed on developing relations based on mutual interests.

Barzani reiterated his condolences for the deaths of the Iranian president and his delegation in a helicopter crash, it said.

It added that Barzani emphasized enhancing relations with Iran and maintaining security and stability in the region, while Bagheri reiterated his country's desire to strengthen relations with the KRG across all fields.

At a news conference after the meeting, it was stressed that the visit and discussions underscored the importance of enhancing relations in various fields.

Bagheri had also met Iraqi Prime Minister Muhammed Shia al-Sudani in Baghdad as part of his contacts in Iraq.
