ANKARA (AA) - Prime Minister Binali Yildirm met Kuwaiti Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Jaber al-Sabah in Ankara on Tuesday, an official said.

The pair discussed areas of common interest between the two countries, including trade, culture, tourism and defense, the official said on condition of anonymity due to restrictions on talking to the media.

Yildirim expressed his appreciation at Kuwaiti support against the Fetullah Terrorist Organization, a network accused of orchestrating last July’s coup attempt in Turkey.

During the meeting at the Marriott hotel, Sabah highlighted Turkey’s significant role in the Middle East and commented that he expected to cement and extend ties between the countries during his trip.

Earlier, Sabah met Parliament Speaker Ismail Kahraman at the hotel.

Both meetings were closed to the media. Sabah is due to meet President Recep Tayyip Erdogan to sign economic and energy agreements later.
