ANKARA (AA) - Kuwaiti ruler Sheikh Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah accepted the government's resignation Wednesday shortly after he took the constitutional oath as the Gulf nation's new emir.

Sheikh Mishal accepted the resignation of the government of Prime Minister Sheikh Ahmad Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah, and assigned it "to act as caretaker and to run urgent matters," according to state news agency, KUNA.

Prince Nawaf Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah died Dec. 16 at the age of 86.

That same day, the Kuwaiti Royal family, in line with the emirate's succession law, proclaimed Sheikh Mishal the new emir.
