ISTANBUL (AA) - Kyiv on Tuesday welcomed the EU’s agreement on the Ukraine Facility program, which envisions providing the war-torn country with €50 billion ($53.6 billion) over four years.

“Welcome the political agreement reached between the European Parliament and the European Council on the €50 bln Ukraine Facility. The European Union stands united in its unwavering support of Ukraine," Prime Minister Denys Shmyhal said on X.

Shmyhal said the EU is “showing its commitment to play a major role in Ukraine’s recovery and modernization.”

The leaders of 27 European Union countries sealed the deal on the funds last week, as Hungary dropped its veto. A provisional agreement in this regard between the European Council and the European Parliament was reached on Tuesday.

The funds will contribute to the repair, recovery and reconstruction of Ukraine, according to the EU.

The 27-member bloc says it has provided over €85 billion in support for Ukraine and its people since the start of Russia’s "special military operation" in February 2022.
