ISTANBUL (AA) – Matthew Alan Livelsberger, who exploded a Tesla Cybertruck outside a Las Vegas hotel owned by President-elect Donald Trump, left notes on his phone, describing the attack as a “wake-up call” and “not a terrorist attack,” according to investigators.
“Americans only pay attention to spectacles and violence. What better way to get my point across than a stunt with fireworks and explosives,” said Livelsberger, who was a US Army special operations soldier and died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
“Why did I personally do it now? I need to cleanse my mind of the brothers I've lost and relieve myself of the burden of the lives I took,” he said.
Stating that the country is ruled by “weak and feckless leadership who only serve to enrich themselves,” he said: “Fellow service members, veterans and all Americans, TIME TO WAKE UP.”
The motive behind Livelsberger's choice of the Trump hotel and a Tesla Cybertruck remained unclear as of Friday.
Las Vegas FBI agent Spencer Evans told reporters: “Investigative steps have discovered, and information of the Army indicates, that he likely suffered from PTSD (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder), and we're also aware that there were potential other family issues or personal grievances in his own life that may have been contributing factors.”
