ANKARA (AA) – A last-gasp Harry Kane header salvaged a 2-2 draw for Tottenham in a charged London derby against Chelsea on Sunday.
The fiery clash at Stamford Bridge ended in a confrontation between Thomas Tuchel and Antonio Conte, with both managers given red cards.
Chelsea were up 1-0 at the interval, having gone ahead in the 19th minute when new arrival Kalidou Koulibaly lashed home a volley from a corner by Marc Cucurella, another of Tuchel’s summer recruits.
A frantic second half saw Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg equalize in the 68th minute, driving in a low shot from the edge of the box.
That triggered what would be the first faceoff of the game between Conte and Tuchel, who was incensed that the referee missed a foul on Kai Havertz in the buildup to the Spurs goal.
Chelsea regained the advantage in just nine minutes with a sweeping move that saw Raheem Sterling tee up an unmarked Reece James for a simple finish.
In the very last of the six stoppage-time minutes, Kane showed his trademark prowess to glance in a header from Ivan Perisic’s corner, dashing the hosts’ hopes for a second straight win.
The result leaves both London clubs on four points, with Tottenham placed fourth with a better goal difference.
Chelsea, now unbeaten in eight games against Spurs, find themselves in seventh spot on the standings.
