BEIRUT (AA) - Lebanese Christians marked the Good Friday holiday across Lebanon including in southern areas despite a military escalation with Israel, according to the Lebanese official news agency, NNA.
Christians, following the Western calendar, held masses and rituals in churches in the southern town of Marjaayoun and neighboring villages,
Security forces were heavily deployed around churches to secure worshippers, added NNA.
Good Friday is observed by Christians to commemorate the crucifixion of Jesus Christ under beliefs.
Tension has flared between Lebanese group Hezbollah and Israel along the shared border since an Oct. 7 cross-border incursion by the Palestinian group, Hamas, triggering the war in Gaza.
The current escalation is said to be the deadliest since the 2006 Lebanon War.
