ISTANBUL (AA) - Liverpool have signed Italian winger Federico Chiesa from Juventus, the club announced Thursday, marking the second major addition under new manager Arne Slot.
Chiesa, 26, expressed his excitement about joining the Premier League giants. "I'm so happy to be a Liverpool player. When Richard Hughes called me and he said, 'Do you want to join Liverpool?' – and the coach called me – I said yes immediately because I know the history of this club, I know what it represents to the fans," Chiesa said in a statement. "So, I'm so happy and I can't wait to get started," he added.
During his time with Juventus, Chiesa scored 32 goals in 131 appearances. On the international stage, he has earned 51 caps for Italy, scoring seven goals and playing a key role in Italy’s victory at EURO 2020.
Chiesa will don the No. 14 shirt for Liverpool, a number previously worn by former captain Jordan Henderson, who held it for 12 seasons before his departure in 2023.
This signing follows Liverpool’s recent acquisition of Giorgi Mamardashvili from Valencia, as manager Arne Slot begins to shape his squad for the upcoming season. Chiesa’s arrival is seen as a significant boost for the Reds, adding both experience and versatility to their attacking options.
