ISTANBUL (AA) – Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim announced a significant £4 billion (approximately $4.8 billion) investment in the UK on Wednesday, according to a British government statement issued after he met with his host counterpart Keir Starmer in London.
Earlier on Wednesday morning, the Malaysian prime minister arrived in London for a five-day working visit from Abu Dhabi, where he had just finished a three-day visit to the United Arab Emirates.
During the visit, the two countries intend to sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the Malaysia-UK Joint Economic and Trade Committee and Other Supporting Mechanisms (MUKJETCO).
Ibrahim and Starmer discussed the latest situation in Gaza, where Israel has continued its genocidal attacks on Palestinians, killing over 46,700 people in more than 15 months, as well as a wide range of other issues during their meeting.
“We concurred on the importance of deepening our strategic cooperation in education, economy, energy, artificial intelligence, and defense, and engaged in meaningful discussions regarding potential solutions to the ongoing Gaza issue,” the Malaysian prime minister wrote on X.
The visit marks Anwar's first official visit to the UK since his election in 2022, at the invitation of his British counterpart.
