LONDON (AA) – A man armed with a crossbow was shot dead by armed officers in Southwark, London, police said on Tuesday.
In a statement, Metropolitan Police said that officers were called at 4.55 a.m. to reports of a man attempting to force entry to a residential property.
It was reported that the man, believed to be in his 30s, was armed with weapons, including a crossbow, and was threatening to harm residents inside the address, added the police.
“The man had got inside the property, and a police firearm was discharged ... Officers and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service immediately provided first aid but sadly the man died at the scene,” said the statement.
Two occupants also received minor injuries during the incident.
“I understand the local community will be concerned at the events that have taken place this morning,” Detective Chief Superintendent Seb Adjei-Addoh said in the statement.
"We will fully support the IOPC (Independent Office for Police Conduct) investigation into the full circumstances of what happened," he added.
