ANKARA (AA) - Manchester City beat Chelsea 1-0 in an English Premier League match Thursday in London to stay firmly in the title race.
Chelsea pair Raheem Sterling and Christian Pulisic were hurt in the first half as the early injuries spoiled the London club manager Graham Potter's plans.
Visitors Manchester City broke the deadlock in the 63rd minute at Stamford Bridge when Algerian midfielder Riyad Mahrez scored.
Mahrez started the attack himself, and after some teamwork he finished in the far post. Jack Grealish assisted him by crossing into Mahrez's path.
This was the winning goal for Manchester City.
Second-place Man City took a vital victory in a match week where leaders Arsenal lost points.
On Tuesday, Arsenal drew with Newcastle United 0-0 at London's Emirates Stadium.
Arsenal have 44 points in 17 matches. Man City are now five points behind them.
Meanwhile, mid-table Chelsea have 25 points.
Both Arsenal and Manchester City will play derbies each next weekend.
Manchester City will visit Manchester United on Jan. 14 and Arsenal will face Tottenham Hotspur in an away match on Jan. 15.
