Manchester United on Monday announced that Mason Greenwood will leave the English Premier League side following an internal investigation into allegations of attempted rape.
The Red Devils published a statement about the 21-year-old English player's situation with the club after they had concluded the internal investigation.
"Based on the evidence available to us, we have concluded that the material posted online did not provide a full picture and that Mason did not commit the offences in respect of which he was originally charged," Manchester United wrote.
"That said, as Mason publicly acknowledges today, he has made mistakes which he is taking responsibility for. All those involved, including Mason, recognize the difficulties with him recommencing his career at Manchester United. It has therefore been mutually agreed that it would be most appropriate for him to do so away from Old Trafford, and we will now work with Mason to achieve that outcome," the statement added.
Greenwood was arrested last year on suspicion of rape and assault after police were notified of online social media images and videos posted by a woman who reported physical violence.
He was later released on bail following his arrest and charges that included threatening to kill a woman.
Manchester United had suspended the right-winger until further notice.
Greenwood's most recent appearance was against West Ham United in a Premier League match in January 2022.
He had 35 goals and 12 assists in 129 matches for the Red Devils.
