SANAA, Yemen (AA) - Massive fires and powerful explosions were seen from UK and US-led raids on Yemen, according to social media video posted Friday by activists.

Plumes of smoke were seen rising from a massive fire at the Houthi-controlled Al-Dailami Air Base near Sanaa International Airport.

Abdullah bin Amer, deputy director of the Moral Guidance Department of the Houthi forces, said: “The fire was caused by the American-British aggression targeted Al-Dailami Air Base.”

“The fire was quickly extinguished, and there was no material damage to the military base,” Amer added.

Activists posted video clips showing a large fire erupting with powerful explosions in various locations of the Saada Governorate, the Houthi stronghold in northern Yemen, and in the coastal Hodeidah Governorate in the west of the country.

So far, there have been no reports of human casualties caused by the raids.

The US and UK carried out missile strikes on Houthi targets in Yemen late Thursday.

The strikes targeted multiple Houthi sites in Yemeni cities controlled by the Iranian-backed group and followed a string of Houthi attacks in the Red Sea on Israeli-bound vessels.

US President Joe Biden said Friday he ordered the strikes “in direct response to unprecedented Houthi attacks against international maritime vessels in the Red Sea.”
