McLaren's Lando Norris dominates F1 Singapore Grand Prix

Norris wins at Marina Bay Street Circuit, finishes at least 20 seconds clear of Red Bull's Max Verstappen

ANKARA (AA) — McLaren's Lando Norris from the UK dominated Sunday's Formula 1 Singapore Grand Prix, finishing the race at least 20 seconds clear of Red Bull's Max Verstappen.

Norris won the 62-lap Singapore Grand Prix held at 4.94-kilometer (about 3.1-mile) Marina Bay Street Circuit as he saw the checkered flag first with a time of an hour, 40 minutes and 52.571 seconds.

Defending champion Verstappen from the Netherlands was 20.945 seconds behind Norris, finishing second at Marina Bay.

Norris' McLaren teammate Oscar Piastri came third to make the podium on Sunday.

This season, Verstappen won seven Grands Prix to lead the 2024 Driver Standings with 331 points.

But Norris is narrowing the gap against him after a Round-18 victory in Singapore.

Ranked second in the driver standings, Norris, who secured three wins during the 2024 campaign, have 279 points.

Ferrari racer Charles Leclerc from Monaco bagged 245 points this season to come after Norris.

Lewis Hamilton (Mercedes), Leclerc (Ferrari) and Piastri (McLaren) won two races each this season. George Russell (Mercedes) and Carlos Sainz (Ferrari) secured a victory each.

Formula 1 will travel to the Americas in October.

The Round 19 of the season, the US Grand Prix, will be held on Oct. 20 in Austin.

Following the race in Austin, the Mexico, Brazil, and Las Vegas Grands Prix will be run in October-November.

The 2024 F1 season will end with the Round 24 in Abu Dhabi on Dec. 8.
