BERLIN (AA) - German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Tuesday hailed closer cooperation between the European Union and China for a multilateral world order.
Merkel warned against unilateralist policies in international arena and urged the strengthening of the multilateral system.
“In today’s discussions, I really had the impression that each of the participants want to bring their contribution so that this [multilateral] system can be further developed,” she said at a joint news conference with the leaders of France and China following a meeting in Paris.
“That means reform at the UN Security Council, further development of the IMF, reforming the WTO … that also means reactivating the G20,” she added.
Merkel met with French President Emmanuel Macron and Chinese President Xi Jinping, ahead of an EU-China summit April in Brussels.
EU Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker also attended the meeting.
