Mexico reports 1,177 daily COVID deaths

Country registers highest daily number of fatalities since March amid third wave of pandemic

BOGOTA, Colombia (AA) - Mexico reported 1,177 fatalities Wednesday from COVID-19 over the past 24 hours, taking the country’s death toll from the virus to 260,503, according to official data.

It marked the highest daily deaths from the novel coronavirus since March, when the country was hit by the second wave of the pandemic.

Mexico also reported 17,337 new infections over the past day and a total of 3,369,747 cases since the start of the pandemic.

Some 2,715,090 people in the country have recovered.

Over 45 million people in the Latin American country have received one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine while over 26 million have received a second dose.
