NEW YORK (AA) – U.S. stocks ended mixed Friday with disappointing earnings and a rise in oil prices.
The Dow Jones fell 16 points to close at 18,145. The S&P 500 ended flat at 2,141 with less than a point decline. The Nasdaq, however, gained 15 points to finish at 5,257.
The Dow ended flat for the week, while the S&P and the Nasdaq gained 0.4 percent and 0.8 percent, respectively.
Weak quarterly results from telecommunications giant Verizon on Thursday created a negative sentiment in the market Friday.
Oil prices, however, were up more than 0.5 percent.
At the final bell, the American benchmark was up 0.6 percent to $50.90.
The international benchmark gained 0.9 percent to $51.80.
Crude prices posted their fifth weekly gain in a row, supported by OPEC's plan to limit production in coordination with Russia.
