LEFKOSA, Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (AA) - A monument will be built in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) to remember Turkish Cypriots who were killed 59 years ago.
In 1964, 11 Turkish Cypriots left their homes from Larnaca by bus to work in the British-controlled zone of Dhekelia. They were killed after their route was blocked by a group of armed Greek Cypriot militiamen. Their remains were found in 2006 and were buried in Northern Cyprus in 2009. However, the bus is still missing. The incident was introduced in 2007 with the documentary "Lost Bus."
Iskele municipality in the TRNC announced that the monument of the "Lost Bus" will be built in the Bahceler area on the Iskele-Karpaz road.
The identities and belongings of the 11 men will be exhibited in front of the monument, the municipality said in a statement, adding it is aimed to be completed next year on May 13, the day the men disappeared.
