ISTANBUL (AA) - Here’s a rundown of all the news you need to start your Tuesday, including the latest in diplomatic standoff between India and Canada, Egypt’s President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi announcing to run for a third term, observations of the UN mission in Karabakh, and over 1,000 dengue-related deaths in Bangladesh.

  • India tells Canada to withdraw diplomats: Report

India has told Canada to withdraw around 40 diplomats from the country, according to a report by Financial Times.

New Delhi has set a deadline of Oct. 10 for their repatriation and has threatened to revoke the diplomatic immunity of those who remain beyond that date.

The move came after last month’s tensions between the two countries when Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau alleged India was involved in the June assassination of a Canadian Sikh leader.


  • Egypt’s Sisi to run for 3rd term in office

Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah al-Sisi, in a televised address, announced he will run for a third term in office.

Sisi, whose current six-year term ends in 2024, was widely expected to run again in the presidential polls slated for December.

The address came as thousands of Egyptians gathered in several squares across the country to show support for Sisi’s candidacy.


  • UN mission in Karabakh sees no violence against Armenian civilians

The UN mission visiting Karabakh in Azerbaijan said it neither observed any violence against Armenian civilians, nor destruction against civilian infrastructure.

The mission was in the region this weekend to assess the situation on the ground, spokesman Stephane Dujarric told reporters.

"They saw no damage to civilian public infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and housing or cultural or religious infrastructure," Dujarric said.

It also did not receive any reports of violence from the local population or others against Armenian civilians.


  • Dengue-related deaths surges to over 1,000 in Bangladesh

The death toll from the mosquito-borne viral infection dengue in Bangladesh surpassed 1,000 since the start of the year, health authorities said.

The figure now stood at 1,006, according to the Directorate General of Health Services, the highest since 2000 when the country started keeping data on the disease.

Last month, 396 deaths with almost 80,000 registered hospitalizations were reported.

The high number of reported cases is putting pressure on the health system in the country, the World Health Organization warned.

  • Hundreds of Palestinians rallied in Gaza to protest incursions by Israeli settlers into the Al-Aqsa Mosque complex in occupied East Jerusalem.


  • The World Health Organization (WHO) recommended a second vaccine against malaria to prevent risks for children.

  • Saudi-Iranian football match in Iran canceled

A football game between a Saudi and Iranian football clubs in Iran was canceled on Monday amid reports of a row over a statue of former Iranian general Qassem Soleimani in the stadium.


  • Real Madrid to play with Napoli today in Champions League matchday

The UEFA Champions League matchday two will begin Tuesday as Real Madrid will visit Napoli in a Group C match in Italy.

In their opener, Napoli beat Braga 2-1 in Portugal.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid barely beat Union Berlin 1-0 at home thanks to English star Jude Bellingham's close-range finish in the 94th minute.

  • World Bank revises China's 2024 growth forecast

The World Bank revised China's economic growth forecast for next year to 4.4%, from its previous projection of 4.8%, citing a loss of confidence partly due to falling property prices.

The gross domestic product (GDP) growth expectation economy was left unchanged at 5.1% for this year, faster than the 3% recorded last year.


  • Strike against US automakers causes billion dollar losses, says report

A strike by members of the United Auto Workers (UAW) against American automakers resulted in $3.95 billion in total economic losses in the first two weeks, according to a new report.

The big three manufacturers -- General Motors, Ford and Chrysler parent Stellantis -- lost $1.12 billion, said Michigan economic consulting firm Anderson Economic Group.
