  • Morocco declares 3 days of national mourning after deadly earthquake

King Mohammed VI declared three days of national mourning following a devastating earthquake that struck central Morocco late Friday, killing more than 2,000 people.

Flags will fly at half-staff on all public buildings during the mourning period, and also ordered the formation of a ministerial committee to develop a reconstruction plan.

Videos surfacing have shown damaged buildings and rubble-strewn streets.


  • G-20 leaders call for peace in Ukraine in consensus declaration

G-20 leaders agreed on a consensus declaration on the first day of talks in New Delhi, calling for peace in Ukraine and urging states to avoid the use of force to seize territory.

Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the declaration of the weekend summit, not attended by the Chinese and Russian presidents, had been adopted.

The consensus was a breakthrough as the Group of 20 is divided on the war in Ukraine, with the West pushing for condemnation in the declaration. The meeting continues on Sunday.


  • Clashes renew in Palestinian refugee camp in Lebanon despite cease-fire

Clashes renewed between the Palestinian Fatah movement and rival armed groups at the Ein el-Hilweh refugee camp in Lebanon.

Sounds of gunfire and shells were heard inside the camp, said an Anadolu reporter at the scene.

Violence erupted shortly after the fighting groups reached a cease-fire, according to a source with Hamas.

At least 14 people were killed and more than 40 injured since fighting first erupted on July 29, said UN figures.

  • Coco Gauff becomes 2023 US Open women's singles champion

Coco Gauff became the 2023 US Open women's singles champion by beating Aryna Sabalenka 2-6, 6-3, 6-2 in the final.

Sabalenka won the first set, despite missing several critical break points early in the match at Arthur Ashe Stadium in New York City.

But afterward, the young American turned the tide and won the next two sets.

The 19-year-old clinched her maiden Grand Slam in her second major final, after losing the 2022 Roland Garros (French Open) final to Polish Iga Swiatek 6-1, 6-3.
