Morocco’s Soufiane El Bakkali on Wednesday won the gold medal in the men's 3,000 meters steeplechase at the Paris 2024 Olympics.
The defending champion, with a time of 8 minutes 06.05 seconds, bested world record holder Lamecha Girma of Ethiopia, who did not finish the course as he fell on the track and was taken away by medics.
Kenneth Rooks of the US bagged the silver with 8:06.41, while Kenyan Abraham Kibiwot was awarded the bronze with 8:06.47.
Tunisian Mohamed Amin Jhinaoui finished fourth with a time of 8:07.73, setting a new national record.
