Morocco drew 1-1 with the Democratic Republic of Congo in a Group F match Sunday at the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
Moroccan star right-back Achraf Hakimi brought his team an early lead in the sixth minute at Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro, Ivory Coast.
DR Congo forward Silas Katompa Mvumpa equalized the score in the 76th minute.
A brief scuffle broke out between players from the two sides and coaching staff after Morocco coach Walid Regragui approached Congo’s captain, Chancel Mbemba, who had received a yellow card for arguing with the referee.
Mbemba disagreed with something Regragui said and signaled for the video referee. Players from both teams rushed in, and pushing and shoving took place as officials attempted to bring things under control.
Group F leaders Morocco, with 4 points, failed to widen the point gap between runners-up DR Congo, which have 2 points.
