RABAT, Morocco (AA) - Protests in solidarity with the Gaza Strip were held Saturday in the Moroccan cities of Tangier and Casablanca, in addition to the national capital of Rabat.

Demonstrators in Rabat expressed solidarity with Gaza, particularly in response to potential Israeli attacks against Rafah, where approximately 1.5 million people have sought refuge in the southern Gaza Strip.

Protesters warned of potential mass casualties if the Israeli army enters Rafah by land and condemned the silence of the Western world in the face of attacks on civilians in Gaza.

In Tangier and Casablanca, Moroccans gathered to protest Israel's bombing of Gaza for more than four months and demanded that Israel be tried at the International Criminal Court.

Israel has pounded the Gaza Strip since an Oct. 7 Hamas attack. The ensuing Israeli attack has killed at least 28,858, injured more than 68,677 others, and caused mass destruction and shortages of necessities.

Less than 1,200 Israelis are believed to have been killed in the Hamas attack.

Israel is accused of genocide at the International Court of Justice. An interim ruling in January ordered Tel Aviv to stop genocidal acts and take measures to guarantee that humanitarian assistance is provided to civilians in Gaza.
