RAQQA, Syria (AA) - Mutual attacks Thursday took place in the Deir ez-Zor province in eastern Syria between Iran-backed groups stationed on the western bank of the Euphrates River and US forces.
Iran-backed groups in the village of Sebaa launched a rocket attack on the Conoco Gas Facility, where US forces are stationed, around 8 p.m. local time, according to local sources reported by Anadolu.
Strong explosions were heard in the area of the US base, and it was observed that one rocket fell inside the base. It is unclear whether there were any casualties.
US forces stationed at the base fired artillery shells, in response to the attack, at the villages of Havicet Sakır, Cefra and Murat where Iran-backed groups are present.
The territory east of the Euphrates River in Deir ez-Zor is occupied by the US-backed PKK/YPG terror organization, while the provincial center and other rural areas are under the control of the Assad regime and Iran-backed groups.
