AFYON, Turkey (AA) - The Motocross World Championship Afyon stage (MXGP of Afyon) ended in the picturesque western Turkish city of Afyon on Wednesday.
The two-day MXGP of Afyon racing event boasted a total of four Grands Prix, including MXGP and MX2 classes in the Motocross World Championship, EMX Open class in the Motocross European Championship, and WMX class in the Women's Motocross World Championships.
On Sept. 7, day one of the event, Italian rider Davide De Bortoli secured his first-ever European title in EMX open at Afyon, while Italian speedster Kiara Fontanesi clinched two wins in the two races of the WMX Afyon stage, grabbing 50 points.
On Sept. 8, the second and last day of the event, Dutch racer Jeffrey Herlings won the first Afyon MXGP race, while previous world champion Tim Gajser secured himself a win in the second race.
In the MX2 class, Maxime Renaux and Tom Vialle grabbed wins in the first and second races, respectively, and both racers grabbed 47 points in the Afyon stage on Wednesday.
One of the biggest events in motocross, the MXGP of Afyon offered exciting races to fans along with wide entertainment opportunities with its motofest, which includes concerts and various activities in the mountainous region.
