ISTANBUL (AA) - Rafael Nadal and Daniil Medvedev moved into the Australian Open quarterfinals in the men's singles on Monday.
World no.2 Nadal defeated Fabio Fognini of Italy 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 to qualify for the next stage at the Rod Laver Arena.
Following this win, Nadal will play against no. 7 seed Stefanos Tsitsipas from Greece in the quarterfinals.
No. 4 seed Daniil Medvedev of Russia eliminated US player Mackenzie McDonald 6-4, 6-2, 6-3 to advance to the last eight.
Russian star will face his countryman Andrey Rublev, who is ranked seventh.
In the women's singles, world no.61 Jessica Pegula claimed a 2-1 surprise victory over no. 5 seed Elina Svitolina to make her first-ever Grand Slam quarterfinal.
Pegula will take on the 22nd-seeded Jennifer Brady.
