ANKARA (AA) - Napoli players wore a special kit dedicated to legendary Argentine footballer Diego Maradona in Serie A match Sunday against Hellas Verona.
The Italian club previously announced the special kit on their official Twitter account and even put it on sale to commemorate the late football legend.
Serie A leaders Napoli drew 1-1 with Verona at Diego Armando Maradona Stadium.
The home field of The Blues, previously called San Paolo Stadium, was renamed after the Argentine legend by the Naples municipality after his passing in 2020.
In 1984, Maradona, considered one of the greatest players in football history, left Spanish powerhouse Barcelona to join Napoli, playing for the Italian club until 1991.
The Argentine national was a beloved Napoli player as he won the 1987 and 1990 Italian top-tier Serie A titles as well as the 1989 UEFA Cup with this club.
Maradona also helped Napoli win the 1987 Italian Cup and scored 115 goals in 259 matches for the team.
