Nasdaq opens Thursday lower to extend losses

Tech-heavy index falls 0.33% after plummeting 1.63% on Tuesday for worst daily loss since October

ISTANBUL (AA) - The Nasdaq opened lower Thursday to decline further, as US stocks were mixed to kick off the session.

The tech-heavy index shed 48 points, or 0.33%, to 14,543 at 9.58 a.m. EDT. The index plummeted 1.63% on Tuesday, recording its worst daily loss since October

The S&P 500, meanwhile, added just six points, or 0.14%, to 4,711 at the time, while the Dow Jones rose 166 points, or 0.45%, to 37,596.

The VIX volatility index, also known as the fear index, shed 0.14% to 14.02. The 10-year US Treasury yield rose 2.35% to 3.997%.

The dollar index trimmed 0.03% to 102.46, while the euro added 0.33% to $1.0957 against the greenback.

Precious metals were mixed with gold unchanged at $2,041 per ounce but silver trimming 0.8% to $22.80.

Oil prices were also in the green, with global benchmark Brent crude rising 0.36% to $78.53 per barrel and US benchmark West Texas Intermediate crude adding 0.52% to $73.02.
