NEW YORK (AA) - Netflix income and revenue increased in the second quarter, the media streaming company announced Monday.
Revenue rose to $2.78 billion, from $2.1 billion the same period a year ago – a 32.4 percent increase.
And net income jumped 61 percent to $66 million, up from $41 million,
The company also added 5.2 million new members during the April-June period. While more than 1 million of the new members were from the U.S., 4.1 million new subscriptions were abroad.
Global subscriptions stand at 104 million with a practically even split between U.S. and foreign subscribers.
Netflix said it expects 4.4 million new subscribers in third quarter.
Company shares soared 10 percent to $177.70 in after-hours trading.
