ANKARA (AA) - The Netherlands on Sunday set a new Olympic record time while winning their first-ever gold medal in women's 3000m relay short track speed skating.
After Suzanne Schulting crossed the finish line for her team, she and her teammates set a record time of 4:03.409, beating their country’s previous best of 4:03.471 at the 2018 PyeongChang Winter Games.
The Dutch team – including Schulting, Selma Poutsma, Xandra Velzeboer and Yara van Kerkhof – also own the current world record time of 4:02.809, set in Beijing last October.
"I was actually so happy we were able to do it,” Schulting said about the race. “I am so proud of the girls. They did an amazing job. We did it!”
South Korea placed second with 4:03.627 while China finished third with a time of 4:03.863.
