ANKARA (AA) – China's newly-appointed ambassador to Afghanistan met with interim Prime Minister Mullah Mohammad Hasan Akhund in Kabul and presented his credentials on Wednesday.

Zhao Sheng was presented a guard of honor upon his arrival at the presidential palace, according to a statement from Afghanistan's Information Ministry.

He has replaced his predecessor Wang Yu, who completed his tenure as Beijing's top diplomat in Kabul last month.

Although no country has yet recognized the Taliban as legitimate rulers of Afghanistan since they stormed back into power two years ago, a number of countries and international organizations have their embassies and representatives in the war-torn country.
