New Zealand on Wednesday announced another $16 million support for Ukraine ahead of NATO leaders summit in Washington.
In a joint statement, Prime Minister Christopher Luxon and Foreign Minister Winston Peters said they will provide an additional $6 million in military assistance for Ukraine, and $10 million in humanitarian assistance for affected communities in Ukraine and in neighboring countries.
“New Zealand understands that while we are distant from Ukraine, what happens there affects us all, and we are prepared to stand with Ukraine for the long haul,” said Prime Minister Luxon.
The announcement came ahead of NATO leaders summit in Washington as Luxon has also arrived to attend the meeting.
With the latest announcement, the total value of New Zealand’s assistance pledged in the past two and a half years reached more than $130 million.
