New Zealand mountain guide killed in Canada helicopter crash

Lewis Ainsworth was on board Heli-Ski helicopter that crashed in British Columbia last week

ANKARA (AA) - A New Zealander heli-ski guide died in a helicopter crash in Canada last week, Radio New Zealand reported on Monday.

Lewis Ainsworth, the president of the New Zealand Mountain Guides Association (NZMGA), was on board the Northern Escape Heli-Ski helicopter in his professional capacity, when it crashed near the town of Terrace in British Columbia on Jan. 22.

Three people died at the scene, whereas Ainsworth, 35, was one of four injured people transported to the hospital, where he succumbed to his injuries.

The Transportation Safety Board of Canada and the Royal Canadian Mounted Police are investigating the cause of the crash.
