ANKARA (AA) – The COVID-19 or coronavirus cases have surpassed 16,000 in Nigeria with 420 deaths, the country’s health authorities said.
According to local media reports, the surge has come amid a shortage in a testing capacity.
“On June 14, new 403 cases have been confirmed and 13 deaths recorded in Nigeria,” said the Nigeria Center for Disease Control (NCDC) on Sunday.
“To date, 16,085 cases have been confirmed, 5,220 patients have been discharged and 420 deaths have been recorded in 35 states and the federal capital territory,” the NCDC added.
Many Nigerians believe that their country’s concerned health institutions have not conducted enough testing for the deadly pandemic, according to the Nigerian online newspaper the Premium Times on Monday.
According to media reports the country, is also starting to witness community transmission.
